Cost

The construction budget for the playground is $700,000

Milestones

Why are we doing this?

This project is a short-term priority action identified within the City of Port Phillip's Public Space Strategy 2022-2032.

Council is upgrading Gasworks Arts Park to improve the open space experience for park users of all ages. The new playground will create accessible play opportunities for younger age groups with the inclusion of sensory and other accessible play elements.

The impact

Upgrading the park will ensure that it can continue to support a diverse range of uses and functions, while providing a safe, welcoming environment that supports the physical, social and mental health of the community.

Objectives

The proposed design will also honor the history, art and natural 'bushland' character of the park.

Project Update

Community consultation on the draft Concept Plan was conducted from June 7 -  28 June 2023.

Thanks again to all those who contributed their feedback.

The Concept Design is available here to review.

Contamination Management Framework (CMF)

Council is partnering with the State Government who coordinate and manage the environmental consultants preparing the Contamination Management Framework (CMF), to manage the contamination at the Park, in conjunction with the upgrade works.

Contamination Management Framework (CMF) has been prepared by environmental consultants engaged by the Department of Transport and Planning. The recommendations in this framework have been accepted by Council.

The CMF recommendations will guide all site management and construction works associated with the park upgrade project.
