Towed vehicles: report or retrieve

How to get your vehicle back if it has been towed because of where or how you parked it.

We may tow and impound any vehicle that is parked in a clearway, that blocks access, or is illegally parked.

Vehicles that have been towed by Council for the above reasons will be transported to Nationwide Towing:

  • Monday to Friday: 6.30 am to 9 pm
  • Saturdays: 8 am to 1 pm
  • Closed Sunday and Public Holidays

Have your vehicle registration ready.

If a vehicle is left standing on a Clearway Tow-Away Zone, it may be towed away.

Release fees

Towed vehicles will not be released until the tow release and storage fee is paid. Fees are:

  • towing release fee: $470
  • storage fees: $25 per day (only applicable if a vehicle is not collected from the impound yard within 48 hours).

A release fee of $880 will apply if a towed vehicle is not collected from Collingwood impound and subsequently transferred to an alternative location after seven days, where it will continue to incur daily storage fees.

Refund of tow fees – exceptional circumstances

We will o​nly consider refunding the vehicle release fee in exceptional circumstances. 

These are verifiable and unforeseen circumstances outside of your control that would reasonably prevent you from making sure your vehicle was legally parked, such as a medical emergency or a vehicle breakdown.

You will need to provide verifiable documents that support these circumstances.  Note: we do not accept statutory declarations or medical certificates.

Once we receive your request with your supporting evidence, we will contact you within 5 business days with our decision.  Please note we may request further information and please note that if any storage fees are incurred, these will remain the responsibility of the vehicle owner.
