Celebrating Local Stories at the 2026 Port Phillip Writes Writing Awards
More than 80 people gathered at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron on 14 October to celebrate the 2026 Port Phillip Writes Writing Awards, a highlight of the City of Port Phillip Seniors Festival.
Hosted by Mayor Alex Makin, the event showcased the creativity, wisdom and lived experiences of older writers from across the community. Guests enjoyed readings of selected works by acclaimed voice artist Susanna Lobez, bringing this year’s stories to life.
Now in its 22nd year, Port Phillip Writes attracted 46 entries from both emerging and experienced writers. Together, these works remind us that every life holds a unique story, and every voice adds something valuable to our community.
Port Phillip Writes celebrates positive ageing, challenges stereotypes and honors the ongoing contributions older people make to community life.
Seniors Festival Working Group
Throughout the year, the dedicated Seniors Festival Working Group meets regularly to help shape the festival program, atmosphere and promotional materials. Their ideas, energy and expertise help create a welcoming and inclusive festival that celebrates connection, learning and active ageing.
In 2026, we are delighted to feature members of the Working Group in our promotional campaign, recognising their valuable contribution and community spirit.
