• Summer management campaign

  Our foreshore and parks continue to be some of the most popular summer destinations in Victoria. To manage the influx of visitors, there are a range of annual summer restrictions that run from 1 November to 31 March. These restrictions help us keep our community safe and provide a coordinated response to minimise anti-social behaviour and the negative impacts of large crowds. 

  It’s important for you to know when and where restrictions apply so that you can play your part in keeping our foreshore safe, clean and fun for everyone and avoid incurring any penalties that may dampen the summer fun.

  Our Linking Neighbours Seniors Register is free and enables you to attend trips and activities to meet local people.

• Community networks

  Visit our community directory for local community groups and services in Port Phillip.

  Community gardens provide an opportunity for residents to grow food, connect with nature, learn about plants and enjoy social connection with others.

  There are other ways to connect with community such as sports clubs, service organisations like Rotary and Lions Club, local Facebook pages and through Neighbourhood Watch Victoria.

• Safety at home 

  Victoria Police suggest the following tips to help keep yourself safe at home:

  • Store valuables inside and keep keys in a safe place (not by the front door).  

  • Leave a light on outside or install a sensor light.

  • Keep your home and car doors locked.

• Online safety and scams

  For information about how to protect yourself from scams, you can read the Little Black Book of Scams produced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

  You can also get more information from the eSafety Commissioner website which is Australia's independent regulator for online safety.

• Emergency management

• Water safety information

  The Royal Life Saving Australia's Make Safe Decisions Around Water campaign highlights five key messages to keep communities safe in and around water.

  Developed in collaboration with community leaders and advisors, the campaign promotes safety while swimming, boating, and fishing.

  The campaign messaging includes:

  Always plan ahead, check weather and water conditions, and stay safe around water.

  Please remember to:

  • Never go alone in the water – always have a buddy.
  • Always wear a lifejacket when boating, fishing, or paddling.
  • Don’t drink alcohol when you go swimming, boating, or fishing.
  • Supervise children closely around all water, including pools, rivers, and beaches
  • Learn to swim and learn how to stay safe in and around water.

  Last summer, 134 people drowned across Australia. People from multicultural communities accounted for 27% of all drowning deaths, and 39% were people aged 55 and over. The summer months of December and January saw the highest number of incidents.

  The LOTE Agency has partnered with Royal Life Saving Australia to promote the campaign in different languages to keep our multicultural and multilingual communities safe in and around water.

• Reporting racism

  Regardless of where you’re from, what you look like, what you believe or what language you speak, no one should have to endure racism. 

  If you experience or witness discrimination or racism, you can make a short and confidential report directly to the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission using the form on the Report racism page.
