Public conveniences along the foreshore are cleaned three times daily from November to March and twice daily from April to October. Public conveniences not located on the foreshore are cleaned twice daily from January to December. The City of Port Phillip Public Toilet Plan 2023-2033 provides guidance and practical assistance for planning and decision making in the development, maintenance and operation of the public toilet network across the City of Port Phillip.

Bay Street, Port Melbourne

Public toilets in the Coles Complex at 191-219 Bay Street recently closed. The Owners Corporation for the building terminated the license agreement that previously allowed public access to the toilets. They have now closed the toilets.

We were advised by the Owners Corporation the decision to close was due to safety and security concerns. Issues included:

• repeated vandalism
• property damage
• anti-social behaviour
• suspected drug-related activity
• graffiti
• safety risks to residents, members of the public and contractors.

Despite their efforts, the issues mentioned above have made maintaining the toilets unsustainable.

We understand this closure is inconvenient to our community. The nearest public toilets to Bay Street Coles are located at:

• Lagoon Reserve, Liardet Street
