Walk and Wheel Month
What is Walk and Wheel Month?
Walk and Wheel Month is a two or four-week program that encourages students to walk, ride or scoot to school as often as possible. Teachers record students' travel habits each day, helping schools track participation and celebrate active travel.
Walk and Wheel Month is a fun and engaging way to promote healthy, active travel while building lifelong habits that benefit students, schools and the wider community.

Funding and Support
The program can be tailored to the needs of each school and integrated into the school curriculum. Schools can choose when to run the program, how many weeks the program runs for, which classes participate, how awards are given, and how funding is used.
Council can provide a range of resources and support, including:
- Active Travel Trackers (one per class) to record how students travel to school throughout the month.
- An Active Travel Rebate of up to $400 to help schools run the program. Schools are encouraged to use this funding for a launch event, celebration or other activities that promote active travel.
- Prizes for classes with the highest participation rates. These might include:
- a visit from Council's Smoothie Bike
- the Golden Shoe Trophy, presented at a school assembly
- support for excursions to local facilities
- other prizes selected in partnership with schools, such as down balls, gift vouchers and playground equipment.
- Educational resources, including posters, worksheets, and activity materials.
- Support from Council staff to help deliver the program and incorporate active travel topics into the curriculum.
- Certificates for students who actively travel to school 20 times or more during the month, with support from Council to present certificates and prizes at a school assembly.
