Healthy Tracks to School

Working with schools to uncover barriers to walking and wheeling

What is Healthy Tracks?

Healthy Tracks is a collaborative program that involves Council and selected schools working together to identify barriers to walking and wheeling.

The Healthy Tracks program aims to understand why some students and their guardians don't want to or are unable to walk or wheel to school. Things like unsafe roads and crossings, a lack of bike lanes or poor footpath conditions are just some of the things that we hear through Healthy Tracks.

After completing a Healthy Tracks program, Council then aims to work with the school to implement as many changes as possible to make it easier for everyone to walk and wheel to school safely.

Check out some of the upgrades that Council has made in recent years as a direct result of the Healthy Tracks program.

Can my school participate?

All schools are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). Each year, Council considers all schools who have submitted an EOI and will notify applicants if they are chosen for the following year. Due to budget and staffing constraints, Council can generally complete one Healthy Tracks program per year.

To see if your school has already participated, check out our previous Healthy Tracks reports.
