About the Resource Recovery Centre

We operate a resource recovery centre for the residents of Port Phillip. Lots of household waste and materials can be recycled or safely disposed here. Help us send less to landfill.

• Visitors are required to provide identification at the gate showing their address in Port Phillip.
• We have a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behaviour towards our staff.

Opening hours and location

• Monday to Friday from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm
• Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm

We are closed on public holidays.

Recyclable items we will accept

Residents can drop off the following items. Please bring identification with you when attending the Resource Recovery Centre.

• Motor oil – Used and drained from the engine or gearbox
• Cooking oils – Used, household
• Car parts (small) and car batteries – Please note, not all car parts are recyclable
• Green waste – Leaves, clippings, pruning, small branches and palm fronds. No soil.
• Washing machines, dryers and dishwashers – Free to residents only (we cannot accept fridges, freezers or air conditioners)
• Paint – Limit of 50 litres per car / per person, per day. You can also take paint to any Paintback drop-off points. 
• Cardboard – Flattened boxes
• Glass jars and bottles – Domestic amounts. Please remove lids
• Iron – Small amounts only. For large amounts, contact Norstar Steel Recyclers
• Mattresses for recycling (charges apply for all types - first mattress = $21, subsequent mattresses = $31)
• E-waste

Fees

We charge for all waste to landfill items (non-recyclable garbage) and larger quantities of recycling. These fees are calculated based on volume and are updated in line with Council budget planning. All prices include GST.

Items that we won’t accept

We also do not accept:

• Asbestos – Contact the EPA for disposal options
• Building and construction materials including:
  • Bricks
  • Concrete and other heavy construction waste
  • Wood
  • Rubble
• Soil
• Fridges/Freezers (residents can book for free hard/green waste collection)
• Air Conditioners (residents can book for free hard/green waste collection)

The resource recovery centre does not accept coloured sand products sold in Australia. These products have recently been recalled after traces of asbestos were found in them. We cannot accept these for disposal at the Resource Recovery Centre.

These items must be taken to the nearest landfill or tip.

We do not operate a tip or landfill, so please contact them directly to confirm the list of acceptable materials.
