The strategy is being reviewed and will be sent out for community consultation soon.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for more details.

The Greening Port Phillip Strategy uses an urban forestry approach. This approach recognises that trees cannot be managed in isolation from other parts of the urban environment. When managing our trees, we consider their relationship to buildings, roads, foot-and-bike paths, utilities, open spaces, and activity centres.

The strategy also recognises the need to protect heritage values and enhance neighbourhood character when we undertake planting or maintenance of trees in our parks and open spaces.

The creation of an urban forest provides an essential balance to our highly developed environment. It allows a direct positive impact on the daily lives and experience of our residents and any visitors to the City.

The strategy has several key components:

  • A tree policy
  • A street tree planting guide
  • Tree maintenance guidelines
  • Strategic and master plans.
