Sandridge Bay Trail safety project

Council is undertaking an upgrade to the area around the Bay Trail at Sandridge beach to create a safer area for all to enjoy.

Location

Bay Trail at Sandridge beach

Cost

$100,000

Milestones

Why are we doing this?

We've heard from our community that there are safety concerns in this area, particularly around how pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles move through and interact within the space.

This project presents an opportunity to improve safety outcomes by upgrading this section of the Bay Trail and surrounding infrastructure, helping to reduce the risk of accidents or injuries for all users.

Project will include:

  • Bus shelter removal along with shared path and fence reinstatement to improve path sightlines (complete)
  • Removal of shrub to improve bike path sightlines (complete)
  • Converting a section of the bike path into a shared path to increase pedestrian access to the beach from The Boulevard.
  • Installation of rumble strips and safety line marking on the bike path on approach to shared pedestrian path.
  • Installation of bollards and line marking to replace the existing cycle speed trap fence whilst still controlling illegal vehicle or jetski trailer access.
  • Installation of coloured surface coatings on the shared path and bike path to improve visibility and safety.

The impact

There will be some temporary impacts to the community during the construction period, including access change. We will aim to minimize disruption as much as possible and keep the community informed throughout the works.

Objectives

The project aims to improve safety along Bay Trail, reduce the risk of public injury, and enhance the overall amenity of the area for all users.
