Why are we doing this?

The existing basketball hoop and gravel area at J Talbot Reserve was installed around 15 years ago. It has reached the end of its functional life. This project will create a new formal three-point court. The new court and location will improve usability and avoid conflict with playground users and people entering the theatre school. The existing basketball hoop will be taken down.

The new basketball three-point court will be built of noise-minimising materials, including noise-reduction backboards and a low-noise surface. The surrounding vegetation and screening have been designed to minimise the visual appearance and stop balls bouncing onto Barkly Street.

The impact

Part of the reserve next to Barkly Street will be closed to users during construction.

Objectives

The upgrades will include:

  • a new concrete court with noise-reducing tiles
  • new line marking
  • a new ring and net
  • a noise-reducing backboard.

Protective fencing and garden beds will be installed to stop balls bouncing onto Barkly Street. New vegetation and trees will be planted around the court.
