Council has endorsed the extension of the Community Safety Plan and the development of an action plan which will set our priorities until 2025.

Our Community Safety Plan outlines how we’re working towards building a safe and connected community where everyone feels safe to live, work and play.

On 2 August 2023, Council endorsed the movement to revise and extend the Community Safety Plan and approved the development of an action plan which will set our priorities and initiatives for the next two years – until the review date of November 2025.

The plan was extended, following the postponement of some actions due to Council needing to temporarily shift our focus to supporting our community through the emergency and recovery phases of the COVID-19 pandemic between 2020 and 2022.

Despite the unexpected extra demand on our resources, we have managed to achieve many actions in the Community Safety Plan since its inception in 2019.

The extension of the plan allows us to focus on achieving the actions that had been previously postponed. It will also allow for ample consideration to be given to how the Community Safety Plan will work alongside the new Community Amenity Local Law 2023.

As we move forward, six actions have been identified as our key focus for Version 1.1 of the Community Safety Plan and will form the basis of our action plan which will guide us until 2025.

Our three plan priorities - creating safe spaces, building resilience, and living healthy – will continue as the foundation for our vision of a safe and active community with strong social connections.

Our next steps

For the next two years, we will be devoting our resources and budget to realising these six key community safety actions.

We also know that community safety is an important topic for our community and we’re aware that people’s safety concerns have changed and evolved following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The extension to 2025 will afford us the opportunity to invest time and resources into an extensive engagement process for the development of the next version of the Community Safety Plan, ensuring that everyone has a say on what matters most to them.

Community engagement for the next version of the plan is expected to take place in 2024 and 2025. Make sure to keep an eye out for that, so that you can have your say on what community safety actions we take next.
