We’re now accepting applications for our Cultural Development Fund - Festivals and Events and Cultural Development Fund – Projects.

Our Cultural Development Fund (CDF) grants program has been developed to support artists, arts and cultural organisations and creative community projects in the City of Port Phillip. The program consists of three streams of funding – festivals and events, key organisations and projects.

Two of these streams – CDF-Festivals and Events and CDF-Projects – are now accepting applications.

CDF – Festivals and Events

These grants aim to encourage and assist not-for-profit organisations and community groups to develop local neighbourhood festivals or events that celebrate our City’s community spirit, identity, arts and culture.

For 2023/24, the CDF – Festivals and Events grants will be divided into two tiers:

  • Tier one: $5,000 to $10,0000 for events with a minimum overall attendance of 250 people.
  • Tier two: Up to $20,000 for events with a minimum overall attendance of 2,000 people.

Applications close 28 August 2023.

Who can apply

All not-for-profit community and cultural organisations are eligible to apply, as long as the festival or event is held in the City of Port Phillip and engages the Port Phillip community.

All applicants should read the 2023/24 criteria and guidelines, available on the CDF – Festivals and Events webpage.

2022/23 success story – St Kilda St Patrick’s Day Festival

More than 3,000 people attended the 2023 St Kilda St Patrick’s Day Festival, held in Acland Street Plaza and O’Donnell Gardens. The festival celebrated Irish culture; bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy live music, dance performances, food stalls, and a colourful parade featuring floats, costumes, and community groups.

Could your festival or event idea be the next to be realised?

CDF – Projects

These grants aim to support local artists, groups or arts-related organisations to develop creative projects that engage our community.

Grants are available for all art forms and cultural heritage projects and are designed to develop new work, connect with our communities, and celebrate the creative life of our City.

Applicants may apply for up to $12,000 per project.

Applications close 4 September 2023.

Who can apply

All individual applicants must engage an auspice organisation for the purpose of the application and either need to live, work or volunteer in the City of Port Phillip or have their auspice organisation be based in the City of Port Phillip.

Incorporated not-for-profit arts and related community organisations based in the City of Port Phillip can also apply.

All applicants need to read the 2023/24 criteria and guidelines, available on the CDF – Projects webpage.

2022/23 success story – Garage 2 Gig

One of last year’s recipients, Craig Reardon, devised a project to support emerging artists to be discovered by new audiences. One such artist was Kaiyah Mercedes who was chosen to perform in front of thousands of people as a support act for Leo Sayer and Joe Camilleri at the Palais Theatre.
