Lights, camera, action! Entries open for 2024 St Kilda Film Festival
Proudly presented by City of Port Phillip, the 2024 St Kilda Film Festival (SKFF) will run from 6 - 16 June, kicking off with an Opening Night screening at the iconic Palais Theatre.
The 2023 Festival saw a record number of attendees enjoy world-class short films and Festival Director Richard Sowada aims to topple the record again in 2024.
“With the paint hardly dry on the record-breaking 2023 edition, we're already throwing ourselves headlong into 2024 for our 40th anniversary event,” he said.
“Venues are booked, special programs negotiations and collaborations are underway, and our expanded anniversary program is set to double as we run two screens simultaneously – all we need now is your film!”
Port Phillip Council Mayor Heather Cunsolo welcomed the 40th anniversary as a significant milestone for this always-anticipated event.
“The St Kilda Film Festival is an important fixture on the Port Phillip calendar. We’re inviting established and emerging filmmakers to submit their work for consideration for this celebration of all things film. A milestone anniversary next year gives us even more to celebrate.”
The next iteration sees the Film Festival return to the heart of St Kilda in Fitzroy Street, with The Alex Theatre featuring as a hub for SKFF action alongside events at Hotel Esplanade.
Festival screenings will once again be held in South Melbourne, following the success of this year’s programming at South Melbourne Market, Limerick Arms Hotel, Golden Gate Hotel and Bells Hotel.
The Big Picture: Filmmaker Development Day will provide a fantastic learning and networking opportunity on Saturday 8 June. Presented at JMC Academy, this free event allows budding filmmakers to sharpen their skills and gain exposure and recognition in the film industry, while providing important connections with industry professionals.
As Australia’s longest-running short film festival, SKFF recognises the genre of short film, including music videos, gaming, and immersive forms.
Each year, St Kilda Film Festival welcomes submissions to Australia’s Top Short Film Competition, an Academy Awards® qualifying event, and Under The Radar, the Youth Short Film category for filmmakers under the age of 21. All entries for SKFF 2024 will close on 31 January 2024.
