Why are we doing this?
This project brings Council’s Dog Off-Leash Guideline to life by creating more fenced spaces for dogs (and their humans) to enjoy. In response to strong community demand, Fennell Reserve has been identified as an ideal spot thanks to its great access, existing amenities, and room to play. The new dog park will help ease pressure on popular locations while giving our growing community a safe and welcoming place for dogs to run, socialise and explore.
The impact
The Dog Off-Leash Guideline helps Council create better, more accessible spaces for our growing dog-loving community. By improving how these areas are planned and located, it supports fair use of shared open space while responding to strong community demand. Projects like the proposed fenced dog park at Fennell Reserve will add new places for dogs to play, reduce pressure on existing parks, and help meet the needs of a growing and active population.
Objectives
To bring Council’s Dog Off-Leash Guideline to life by creating more safe, accessible spaces for dogs to run, play, and socialise starting with a new fenced dog park at Fennell Reserve that meets growing demand and makes better use of local open space.
The new fenced off-leash dog area will feature a fully enclosed park with secure entry ‘airlock’ gates, new planting, clear signage, and durable surface treatments. Dog-friendly enrichment features will also be explored, creating a fun, safe and engaging space for pups to run, play, and socialise.
