Edwards Park Public Amenities

The City of Port Phillip is delivering a new public amenities building at Edwards Park to provide modern, accessible and convenient facilities for the community. The new facility will include an accessible toilet and all-gender toilets, helping to meet the needs of a diverse range of park users while improving comfort and accessibility.

A key objective of the project is to improve safety and user experience within the park. The new amenities building has been carefully located and designed in line with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles. By positioning the facility near key pedestrian routes, the design improves visibility, passive surveillance and accessibility, helping park users feel safer and more comfortable when using the space.

The project has also been designed to respect and protect the park’s natural environment. A lightweight prefabricated building will minimise impacts on significant trees and existing infrastructure, while a feature mural inspired by local flora and fauna will celebrate the unique character of Edwards Park. Together, these improvements will create a safer, more inclusive and welcoming park for the community

To minimise disruption to park users, the new amenities building is being delivered as a prefabricated structure. Most of the building will be manufactured off-site in a controlled factory environment and transported to Edwards Park for installation. This approach significantly reduces the amount of construction activity required on site and helps shorten the overall construction period.

During installation, there may be temporary impacts in the immediate work area, including:

• Temporary construction fencing and work zones
• Localised restrictions to pedestrian access near the construction site
• Construction noise during approved working hours
• Short-term changes to access arrangements around the works area

The park will remain open wherever possible, and impacts will be limited to the immediate construction zone. Access to surrounding park areas will be maintained throughout the project.

These short-term disruptions will enable the delivery of a new, modern and accessible public amenities building that will improve safety, accessibility and convenience for the community for years to come. Once the new facility is operational, the existing toilet building will be removed.
