Celebrating our seniors

Published 2 September 2026
City of Port Phillip’s 2026 Seniors Festival officially kicks off on Friday 2 October with a jam-packed program of 44 events and activities over 16 days.

The launch event includes a free catered lunch at St Kilda Town Hall, toe-tapping music and, for those wanting to celebrate in style, a best hat or headwear competition.

Showcasing low cost or free events, the annual festival is a great opportunity to celebrate the contributions people aged 55+ bring to our City.

From a ukulele singalong and lawn bowls to a cruise ship party, belly dancing and First Nations art workshop, there’s something for everyone. Take friends along or make new ones!

The Festival also includes the Port Phillip Writes - Seniors Festival Writing Award presentations on Wednesday 14 October, where special guests will read selections of writers’ entries.

Come along and try the Linking Neighbours Port Melbourne Coffee Group. The Council-supported Linking Neighbours program offers community connection, support and friendship. There are weekly coffee groups across five Port Phillip locations, along with other activities including trips and exercise groups. Any Port Phillip resident aged 55+ can join for free.

The City of Port Phillip Seniors Festival has been proudly co-designed with local seniors, ensuring the program reflects the interests, experiences, and aspirations of older people in our community.

Throughout the year, the Seniors Festival Working Group meets regularly with our Positive Ageing team to help shape the festival program, event experience and promotional campaign.

In fact Working Group members joined local community member David for a photoshoot at St Kilda Pier (pictured) which beautifully captures older people in Port Phillip embracing ageing with confidence, vitality and a healthy sense of fun.

We’re proud to feature these local faces throughout the 2026 festival promotional campaign, recognising the valuable contribution they make in helping deliver a festival that is genuinely community-led. Their participation reflects the spirit of the Seniors Festival, and the important role older people play in creating a vibrant, connected, and inclusive community.

So thank you Jea, Vas, Coralie, Freda, Janet, Ros and David, for your ongoing commitment to supporting Port Phillip seniors to age well, stay connected and thrive.
