How to prevent rats and mice

• Seal gaps, holes, vents, pipes and other entry points around your property.
• Store food in sealed containers with tight-fitting lids.
• Remove food scraps and other potential food sources.
• Empty rubbish bins regularly and avoid overflowing bins.
• Use rodent control products according to the manufacturer's instructions.
• Contact a licensed pest control operator if the problem persists.

Prevent mosquito breeding

• Remove containers that collect water, such as pots, buckets and tyres.
• Cover or store wheelbarrows, trailers and outdoor toys to prevent water pooling.
• Keep swimming pools clean and covered, or drain them when not in use.
• Maintain lawns and gardens.
• Clear gutters and drains regularly.
• Install mesh screens on water tank inlet and outlet pipes.
• Refresh water in bird baths and pet bowls frequently.

Protect yourself from mosquito bites

• Limit outdoor activities during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
• Wear loose-fitting clothing that covers exposed skin.
• Use insect repellents containing DEET or picaridin and follow label instructions.

Why feeding pigeons is harmful

• Human food does not provide the nutrition pigeons need.
• Feeding encourages birds to gather in unsafe areas.
• Year-round feeding can lead to overcrowding, stress and disease within flocks.
• Dependence on humans reduces birds' natural foraging behaviour.

If you find a bee swarm or hive on public land, report it to Council. Hives on private property should be removed or relocated by a qualified beekeeper or apiarist.

Bees rarely sting unless they feel threatened or are accidentally disturbed. They can be attracted by perfumes, fragrances and brightly coloured clothing.

Bees are generally most active during warm, sunny conditions, typically from mid-morning to late afternoon when flowers are producing nectar.

• Wear clean clothing.
• Cover exposed skin where possible.
• Keep away from flowering plants if bees are present.
• Keep outdoor work and eating areas clean.
