Why are we doing this?
This redevelopment is part of Council's Kindergarten Infrastructure Services Plan which aligns with the Victorian Government's commitment to provide two years of universal kindergarten to all children by 2036. As part of this commitment, there is a need to optimise the use of existing services.
The redevelopment of The Avenue supports the Best Start Best Life reforms that will see an increase in demand for kindergarten places that will increase to 30 hours of free kindergarten education in the year before school for all 4-year-old children.
The impact
- Council is working with The Avenue Children’s Centre Committee of Management to find a suitable site to relocate the early education and care program during the construction period in 2027.
- Typical construction activities will occur on-site in 2027. There may be some localised impacts caused during the construction works, such as traffic and noise. The extent and management of these will be considered and mitigated by the builders, once the tender is awarded.
Objectives
- Modern accessibile childcare facility for 40 licenced places
- Support the operational requirements of The Avenue Children’s Centre during the redevelopment.
Milestones
Town planning permit: 2025
Construction complete: 2027
Opening: 2028
