Why are we doing this?
This redevelopment is part of Council's Kindergarten Infrastructure Services Plan which aligns with the Victorian Governments commitment to provide two years of universal kindergarten to all children by 2029. As part of this commitment there is a need to optimise the use of existing services.
The redevelopment of Lilian Cannam Kindergarten supports the Best Start Best Life reforms that will see an increase in demand for kindergarten places which will increase to 30 hours of free kindergarten education in the year before school for all 4-year-old children.
The impact
Council is working with the Lilian Cannam Kindergarten Committee of Management to find a suitable site to relocate the kindergarten program during the construction period in 2028.
Objectives
- Compliant childcare facility
- 74 licenced childcare places.
Milestones
Town planning permit: 2026
Construction complete: 2028
