Location

46 Tennyson Street, Elwood VIC 3184

Cost

This project is jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government. Costs will be made publicly available after a successful construction tender has been awarded.

Why are we doing this?

This redevelopment is part of Council’s  Kindergarten Infrastructure Services Plan which aligns with the Victorian Governments commitment to provide two years of universal kindergarten to all children by 2036. As part of this commitment there is a need to optimise the use of existing services.

The redevelopment of Elwood Children’s Centre supports the Best Start Best Life reforms that will see an increase in demand for kindergarten places that will increase to 30 hours of free kindergarten education in the year before school for all 4-year-old children.

The impact

Council is working with Elwood Children’s Centre Committee of Management to find a suitable site to relocate the early education and care program during the construction period in 2028.

There may be some localised impacts caused during the construction works, such as traffic and noise. The extent and management of these will be considered and mitigated by the builders, once the tender is awarded.

Objectives

  • Upgraded children’s centre providing 48 licensed places
  • Support the ongoing operation of Elwood Children’s Centre during the upgrade

Milestones

Planning permit: 2025

Construction complete: 2028

Opening: 2029
