Why are we doing this?
To meet Council’s commitment to early childhood education and care, North St Kilda Children’s Centre will be upgraded to ensure it is fit for purpose and future ready.
This redevelopment is part of Council’s Kindergarten Infrastructure Services Plan which aligns with the Victorian Governments commitment to provide two years of universal kindergarten to all children by 2036. As part of this commitment there is a need to optimise the use of existing services.
The redevelopment of Eildon Road Childcare and Kindergarten supports the Best Start Best Life reforms that will see an increase in demand for kindergarten places that will increase to 30 hours of free kindergarten education in the year before school for all 4-year-old children.
The impact
It is planned that from 2026, Eildon Road Childcare and Kindergarten will be relocating its programs from 17 Eildon Road, St Kilda to the North St Kilda Children’s Centre at 71 Argyle Street, St Kilda.
Eildon Road Childcare and Kindergarten will continue to operate independently during this time, offering education and care to all their families.
The Committee of Management at Eildon Road Childcare and Kindergarten are working with Council to ensure all families are supported in this relocation.
Objectives
- Upgrade Eildon Road Childcare and Kindergarten for ongoing provision of childcare and kindergarten.
- Support the ongoing operation of Eildon Road Childcare and Kindergarten during the upgrade.
