ELIoT Energy is cutting costs for hospitality businesses

For Australian businesses, commercial refrigeration appliances can be responsible for between 50 to 80% of their electricity use.
To ELIoT Energy, a local business based out of Fishermans Bend, the fridges in Australian grocery stores, restaurants, cafes, and other businesses represented an innovative opportunity.
With the support of their partners, including FB Ideas, ELIoT Energy is well on their way to achieving their goal to “accelerate the transition to affordable green energy” in a practical, cost-effective way.
We sat down with founder David Hauser to learn more about ELIoT Energy and how it can help Port Phillip businesses.
How it works
ELIoT Energy was founded in 2024, originally aiming for the home energy sector, but quickly “pivoted towards a solution for commercial customers”.
The product is simple – a combined battery and energy management system, aligned to commercial fridges.
By monitoring real-time usage data, the energy management system recharges the battery at the most efficient time, using the cheapest and greenest energy. This is the time of day when solar power generation is at its peak. Your business appliances then get powered for the remainder of the day (and even overnight) using that stored energy.
As a ‘plug and play’ product, the simple installation process doesn’t require a professional electrician. Business owners can “install it in less than 10 minutes themselves” David says. Another benefit is the ability to retrofit, as the product works with existing equipment and legacy appliances.

ELIoT Energy’s own sustainable practice
Sustainability isn’t just a business product for ELIoT Energy, it’s also something they’re embedding into their own practice.
They’re currently adapting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) alignment system into their business model. They’re also looking into bringing more of the product assembly process to Australia, balancing that with financial feasibility.
Success for Port Phillip businesses
From May to October 2025, ELIoT Energy conducted a pilot at two local businesses, including CBCo Brewing in Port Melbourne. Over the 6-month period, the batteries charged during peak renewable hours and powered the display fridges throughout the night.
As a result, electricity costs were reduced by 72% and emissions were reduced by 23%.
Any business who installs an ELIoT Energy battery will save on their energy bills. “Depending on your energy provider, you could see up to $1000 savings annually”.
But mostly, David says, he wants businesses to know that “even if they don’t own the property, or have access to a backyard or rooftop, we have a solution for you. You can still participate in the energy transition, and benefit from renewable energy”.
