Anselm van Rood has been a professional artist since the 1960s in London. The intention of his work is to make images that have the quality of longevity, work that can go on revealing itself over time, over weeks, over months and over years. Technically, Anselm’s works are mainly oil on canvas, watercolour on paper and ink & wash on paper. His subject matter is derived from the observation of ordinary life, in the Buddhist understanding that the sacred is to be found within 'ordinary' reality. His process involves working, refining and developing images over a long engagement with the subject. His work invites the viewer to slow down, to become still and thus to be receptive to the non-verbal meanings therein. Anselm wants to offer an antidote to all that is quickly consumed and disposable in our contemporary society.
