How to use a Resident and Visitor parking permit to park at your home

Resident and Visitor parking permits allow you to park in your parking area.  The parking sign must display the same area number as your permit and you must be parked in front of or adjacent to a 100% residential property.

This means you cannot use your permit in the following locations:

  • commercial / retail / mixed use and industrial properties
  • community land uses and along the foreshore (including foreshore parks and recreational spaces)
  • clearways, no stopping areas, loading zones, taxi zones, bus zones, car share and disability parking
  • off-street car parks

When parked in front of or adjacent to a 100% residential property within your permit area, you can park in:

  • permit zone restrictions
  • time limited restrictions (green signs) which are 30 minutes or longer
  • paid parking locations

If your permit has a (B) on it, it means your home is on a boundary street.  Your permit then allows you to park on both sides of your street within the area marked on the permit, within the City of Port Phillip municipality. This does not apply if your property is located on the foreshore (e.g. Beaconsfield Parade or The Esplanade etc).

Resident and Visitor permits are only valid when used to attend the property they are issued to. Permits are not valid when used for any other purpose.
