Serge Thomann first served as a Councillor for the City of Port Phillip for over eight years between 2008 and 2016, including three years as Deputy Mayor. He was re-elected in 2024. A proudly independent voice, Serge is not affiliated with any political party and firmly believes that local government should remain free from major party influence. Serge is also elected as a Councillor by the French people living in Australia, Fiji and PNG and has been recognised by the French President for his contribution to the French community.

With a professional background as a marketing executive at L’Oréal and a successful career as a photographer, Serge brings creativity, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of community to his work. He is also the founder of unChain St Kilda, a grassroots movement reflecting his long-standing commitment to local advocacy and civic engagement.

Serge is passionate about celebrating and protecting everything that makes St Kilda unique - its beaches, local villages, arts, and vibrant cultural life. He has delivered landmark projects, including the world-class St Kilda skate park and the restoration of the iconic Palais Theatre. He planted the first seed of the Victorian Pride Centre in St Kilda. He continues to advocate for the revitalisation of Fitzroy Street and Acland Street and has not given up on a positive outcome for the Triangle!

Serge remains focused on addressing key local challenges such as community safety, affordable housing, sustainable transport and improved public services. He champions transparency, smarter budgeting, and meaningful community consultation - ensuring Council decisions reflect the needs and values of the people it serves.
