SCLS provides free legal services and community legal education across the Port Phillip LGA by delivering its services through our day and evening legal services at the Port Melbourne office. The legal services are delivered to individuals through legal information and referrals, legal advice and tasks such as drafting court documents or letters of demand, representing people in court and through dispute resolution processes. SCLS also offers a Vicitms of Crime Legal Service to clients to assist them to apply for a grant of compensation.
They also provide community legal education to the community through educational workshops and presentations on topics such as planning ahead for wills and power of attorneys, tenancy matters and educating community workers to identify legal issues.
The legal team is expert in assisting people with legal information and referrals. When SCLS is not the right service, we are committed to assisting with finding the right place for people to get help.
Their primary practice areas are criminal law in the Magistrates’ Court, family law including parenting arrangements and child support issues, and civil law including family violence intervention orders, victims of crime compensation, wills and powers of attorneys, fines, tenancy, consumers and debt issues.
