Why are we doing this?
The Victorian Government has now finalised and approved the Shrine to Sea Masterplan. Additional information on the project can be found here: https://www.environment.vic.gov.au/yani-barripbarripuyt
Council will now complete detailed design, planning approvals and project delivery.
The impact
There will be impacts during construction. Works will be undertaken outside of the summer period to minimise impact on the community.
Objectives
The Yani Barripbarripuyt Masterplan will link the Anzac Station to Port Phillip Bay by:
- a series of enhanced green boulevards,
- safe and clear links and connections for walking and cycling,
- providing an opportunity to celebrate local stories and wayfinding, and
- improve the usable open space on the existing medians.
- improve the experience of residents and visitors through engaging experiences.
- while the road name will remain unchanged, the boulevard will adopt a new name of
‘Yani Barripbarripuyt’, meaning ‘go to the sea/ocean’ in the Boonwurrung language of the Bunurong people. ‘Aboriginal Country’ is the overarching theme for the boulevard.
About the project
Council will undertake project management for the Yani Barripbarripuyt works on council land. This includes detailed design, procurement and construction of the Kerferd Road median and Kerferd Road Pier Forecourt. The plan below shows the extent of council’s scope.
