Why are we doing this?
The Fred Jackson Reserve and Sandridge Beach Tree and Planting project is underpinned and guided by the Council Plan (2022-31) that sets out our vision for the City of Port Phillip over the next 10 years.
This project aligns to the City of Port Phillip’s Council Plan 2022-31 under two strategic directions:
Livable Port Phillip
A City that is a great place to live, where our community has access to high quality public spaces, development and growth are well managed, and it is safer and easy to connect and travel within.
Sustainable Port Phillip
A City that has a sustainable future, where our environmentally aware and active community benefits from living in a bay side city that is greener, cooler, cleaner and climate resilient.
The impact
Anticipated disruptions include occasional, temporary road closures and limited access to the sections of the Sandridge Beach and Fred Jackson Reserve.
Objectives
Improved shade
We will plant native trees to increase shade for visitors to the beach and reserve, especially along paths and near picnicking areas.
Improved habitat
The planting sites will feature indigenous plant species suited to the local conditions. Ecologists will advise on species selection and habitat structure, with a special focus on supporting small birds.
