Elwood Promenade Safety Upgrade - Balustrade Installation

Council is committed to community safety and maintaining accessible public spaces. Due to the ongoing erosion at Elwood Beach a safety balustrade will be installed to maintain public safety and keep the Bay Trail pedestrian path open.

Location

Elwood Beach

Cost

$100,000

Milestones

Why are we doing this?

Council is dedicated to ensuring community safety and keeping public spaces accessible. The erosion at Elwood Beach, just north of the rock groyne and boat ramp has increased the drop along the promenade. To address this and ensure the Bay Trail pedestrian path remains open, Council will install a safety balustrade to protect public safety.

DEECA have indicated they unable to fund these works, therefore, Council will proceed with installing the balustrade to reduce risk and ensure the safety of the community. Officers will continue advocating for beach renourishment and state government investment in the heritage-built sea walls, originally constructed in 1908.

The impact

Minor path disruptions are expected during the installation of the balustrade. Signage will be placed on-site prior to construction to update the community.

Objectives

Officers are working on the design and installation of over 100m of safety balustrade for the community and to keep the Bay Trail pedestrian path open. The balustrade will meet current design standards and made from materials to suit the exposed coastal conditions.
