Statement from Mayor Louise Crawford on anti-Semitic attacks in Melbourne

Published 5 July 2025
Port Phillip Council is appalled by reports of anti-Semitic attacks overnight in the City of Melbourne, including the targeting of a synagogue and an Israeli restaurant.

While these incidents occurred outside our municipality, we know they will have a deep impact on the entire Jewish community.

Anti-Semitism has no place in Port Phillip, Melbourne or anywhere. Neither does violence or hate-fuelled protests.

Our Council stands unequivocally against anti-Semitism and strongly condemns these attacks. This must stop.

I have been in contact with Lord Mayor Nick Reece this morning to express our concern about rising anti-Semitism and to extend our offer of support.
