In partnership with Visit Victoria and Ports Victoria, City of Port Phillip celebrated two Silversea ships docking in Melbourne simultaneously for the first time in its history on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of November.

To mark the milestone, the City of Port Phillip helped organise activations at Station Pier, including live art and music. Arriving passengers were invited to assist in creating a large-scale street art mural on the forecourt of the Station Pier Gatehouse, led by acclaimed local street artist Tom Gerrard. This was accompanied by a high-energy seven-piece brass band Horns of Leroy performed a roving set along the pier, giving passengers a lively and memorable send-off.

Mayor Alex Makin also attended on Sunday and participated in a plaque presentation ceremony. The Mayor accepted the plaque on behalf of Ports Victoria from Captain Julian Albici aboard the Silver Moon.

This weekend follows the opening of Station Pier to the public in October for the first time since 2020. Throughout summer and concluding in March, 75 cruise ships will dock into Station Pier welcoming thousands of visitors to Port Melbourne and surrounds.

The cruise ship industry in Victoria generates 1,269 full-time equivalent positions and contributes $424.8 million annually to the state’s economy, while drawing over 300,000 visitors each year.
