Nudging the right housing into the right places — the Port Phillip way

This funding comes at a critical time. In response to the housing crisis, the Victorian Government released The Housing Statement in late 2024, setting an ambitious target of 55,000 new dwellings in Port Phillip by 2051.
To help guide this growth in a way that reflects our community’s needs and character, Council is using the grant to carry out a detailed analysis of where new housing could be best located. This work will consider safety, viability, and how new development can enhance our streets and neighbourhoods.
By taking a proactive, locally focused approach, Council is positioning itself to respond effectively to future state planning reforms. We want to ensure that any changes to planning rules take into account the unique context and constraints of Port Phillip, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model.
Later this year, we’ll be inviting the community to have their say through a comprehensive engagement program. Your feedback will help shape how we plan for housing in a way that supports a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable future for everyone.
