Hello Kitty! Record purr-fect matches at Cat Adoption Day

Two of the marvellous moggies which found forever homes at Cat Adoption Day

There were full hearts and empty cages at St Kilda Town Hall last Sunday, when every single cat available found a loving home at our latest Cat Adoption Day.

In a The Lost Dogs’ Home record for the most adoptions in a day, all 91 cats happily headed off to their fur-ever homes.

Ranging in age from just eight weeks to 10 years, some had spent up to two months in care. During that time, many received veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and plenty of compassion - making Sunday’s outcome even more special to their former caregivers.

The excitement was visible well before the doors swung open. Eager adopters queued outside the Town Hall from early morning, some arriving with camp chairs and hot thermoses, determined to be first inside.

Gwyneth, now the proud owner of Luna, was among the adopters. A gentle seven-month-old black cat, laid-back Luna was getting less attention than more playful younger cats when Gwyneth spotted her.

“I was just planning to ask questions about how to adopt for the future. But when I stared at her eyes, I thought I could love you forever.”

Luna is flourishing in her new home as a loving companion, “She is so affectionate and curious and keeps following me around.”

Adult cats were adopted for $25, while kittens found homes for $100, with every feline microchipped, desexed and vaccinated by The Lost Dogs’ Home.

These successful adoptions mean more animals can move into foster care - giving them time to adjust to life outside the shelter -  as well as extra space being created for incoming homeless animals.

We’re proud of what was achieved with The Lost Dogs’ Home and grateful to everyone who showed up with such generosity and love.

Stay tuned for details about the next quarterly Cat Adoption Day on Saturday 4 July – it’s always pawsome!
