The City of Port Phillip has secured $2 million in funding to reconstruct and strengthen the Broadway Bridge through the Australian Government’s Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program, with the City of Port Phillip also contributing $2 million in a 50:50 partnership.

At 118 years old, Broadway Bridge is a crucial part of our city’s transport infrastructure and a significant historical landmark.

The project will replace the bridge deck support structure whilst preserving the historical and architectural significance, cementing the safety and durability of the bridge for generations to come.

The bridge spans Elster Creek, a vital water asset within the Port Phillip Bay water system, and home to a diverse habitat.

This proactive project will safeguard the bridge to endure ongoing impacts such as extreme weather events and rising water levels, while promoting community safety for pedestrians and road users.

This combined investment represents a major commitment to improving essential community infrastructure and highlights the collaboration between the Australian Government and the City of Port Phillip.

The Australian Government’s funding ensures the project can move ahead with confidence and provides certainty for the long-term planning required to manage and protect an asset of this scale.

Securing this funding marks an exciting step forward for our community, bringing meaningful investment directly to residents and strengthening an important piece of local infrastructure for the future.
