Charging ahead

Pole mounted public charging EV station in St Kilda.
Three of these chargers were installed in December in Herbert Street, Elwood, Chaucer Street, St Kilda, and Liardet Street, Port Melbourne. They’re expected to be activated by the provider, EVX, early next year.
The EVX app, which can be downloaded now, will issue an alert when the 22 kiloWatt chargers are switched on and ready to use.
Users will pay directly to the provider via their app or with a free RFID tag linked to a bank account or credit card. Charge rates are 50 cents per kilowatt-hour.
The pole-mounted sites each have two dedicated parking bays for electric vehicles to use when charging. A parking fee isn’t required in these bays while an EV is charging.
The locations are the result of consulting with residents in 2023 on where they would like to see chargers installed.
We worked with EVX to assess locations for electrical capacity, accessibility and demand.
There are also 19 private vehicle charges across Port Phillip, following Council’s decision in June 2024 to extend the pilot of private EV charging.
