To realise the Fishermans Bend vision, we need timely investment in infrastructure, transport, and community facilities. The decisions we make now will shape the future of Fishermans Bend for decades to come.

The opportunity

Fishermans Bend is Australia’s largest urban renewal project and a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a vibrant, sustainable, and connected community just minutes from Melbourne’s CBD.

With five distinct precincts and capacity for over 80,000 residents and 80,000 jobs, it has the potential to become a model for future city living.

Why we're advocating

Despite its strategic importance, Fishermans Bend faces critical challenges:

  • Infrastructure gaps: Essential services like public transport, community hubs, and recreation facilities are lagging behind development.
  • Planning delays: Key documents such as the Development Contributions Plan (DCP) and precinct implementation plans remain incomplete.
  • Lack of funding certainty: Projects like the Montague Arts and Cultural Hub are planned but unfunded while funding timeframes for public transport remains unknown.
  • Transport bottlenecks: Without tram extensions and progress on Melbourne Metro 2 (MM2), the precinct risks becoming disconnected, car-dependent and unable to fulfil it’s potential.

Council is advocating for a coordinated, transparent, and well-funded approach to ensure Fishermans Bend becomes a liveable, inclusive and well-serviced community, not just a collection of high-rise buildings.
