Support for older people looking for public housing in Port Phillip

If you're an older person living in Port Phillip and need public housing, we might be able to support you stay in the local area. We support people to live in certain public housing estates close to their community.

Who can apply?

You may be able to get sponsored housing if:

  • You’ve already been approved for the Victorian Housing Register
  • You meet the income and asset rules set by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing
  • You are over 50 years old (or 45 years and over if you are a First Nations person) and have lived in the Port Phillip area for 3 or more years

How long is the wait?

There is usually a waiting time, which can be from 12 months to a few years, depending on what kind of home you need.

What Kind of Housing Is Available?

There are more than 400 units. Each one has its own kitchen and bathroom. The types of homes include:

  • Bedsitters – one large room for sleeping and living
  • One-bedroom units
  • A few two-bedroom units

The units are located in the following public housing estates:

  • Layfield Court, 150 Victoria Avenue, Albert Park
  • Shoreline, 180 Mills Street / 100 Ashworth Street, Middle Park
  • Inkerman Heights, 150–156 Inkerman Street / 2 Henryville Street, St Kilda
  • Pinaroo Village, 114 Inkerman Street, St Kilda
  • 482 Williamstown Road, Port Melbourne
