Affordable housing projects

• 26 New Apartments: The building will have 26 studio apartments, each with its own kitchen and bathroom.
• Shared Spaces: There will be a lounge, kitchen, dining area, laundry, and outdoor areas for residents to use.
• On-Site Support: Staff will be available 24/7 to support residents with health care, mental health support, and other services.

Funding and land

The City of Port Phillip gave $4.755 million to help build the project. They also donated a nearby laneway to help make space for the development.

Worked with partners

The Council is working together with Homes Victoria and St Kilda Community Housing to make this happen.

People who move into these apartments will be chosen from a list of local people who are homeless, so the homes go to those who need them most.

Building started in early 2024 and should be finished by August 2025. 

Donated the land

Council gave the land at 46–58 Marlborough Street to a not-for-profit group called HousingFirst. This land used to be a public car park.

We teamed up with HousingFirst, the Victorian Government, and the Australian Government to build the housing.

We supported the project through planning and development stages.

46 new apartments

The project created 46 affordable apartments for people who need them, like families, older people, and people with disabilities. 

Public car park

A new underground car park with 39 spaces was built for public use. 

Better walkways

A new walkway called Balaclava Walk was added to make it easier to get to Carlisle Street shops.
