This EOI process invites applications from suitably qualified individuals and organisations who wish to produce events or markets in Council-managed public space during the 2024/25 season, which runs from July 2024 until June 2025.

The City of Port Phillip includes the following suburbs - St Kilda, St Kilda East, Elwood, Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Balaclava, Middle Park and Albert Park (excluding Albert Park Lake).

For more information about event sites, visit event site maps.

This EOI is focused on capturing the following types of events or markets, however, it is open to all activities:

  • major events
  • events requiring closures of major roads
  • long-stay events
  • ticketed events attracting over 1,000 participants
  • ongoing markets with more than four proposed dates.

Event sites outside St Kilda

Did you know if you hold your events outside of St Kilda it could be cheaper?

Why not consider Port Melbourne Beach or the Elwood Carnival site?

Outdoor markets

Are you a boutique, design market looking for an outdoor space?

Potential sites to consider include Point Ormond, Elwood or Kirrip Park, South Melbourne.

Please note, long-term markets will only be assessed through this EOI process.

New event ideas

We encourage new event ideas such as live music including jazz, blues and opera, as well as events targeting an older demographic.

Previous events have included triathlons, fun runs, swimming events, outdoor cinemas, twilight markets, food festivals, live bands and sporting live sites.

Why hold your event in our City?

We are known as a popular event location and are renowned for hosting quality events with high levels of participation. In previous years over 750,000 people have attended events in the municipality.

Our combination of natural assets, highly recognisable landmarks, hospitality centres and proximity to the CBD provide a unique opportunity for event producers.

More information on our City neighbourhoods can be found in the city snapshot.

How to apply

Applications closed on 30 September 2023.

To keep up to date with the annual major events and markets expressions of interest process, sign up online.

Assessment criteria

Applications will be assessed against a range of criteria including the nature of the proposal, site suitability, impact on amenity and benefit to the community.

All applications will also be assessed against the Outdoor Events Policy 2023 and Events Strategy 2023.

Interviews and further information may be requested to further assess proposals.

Can I apply outside this process?

Yes, events can be considered outside this process. However, this process forms the basis for the Council’s events calendar and therefore availability may be limited. Allow three months for assessment of major event applications outside the EOI process.

Assessment on additional events will occur after this EOI process is complete and therefore is likely to begin in the April following the EOI process.

Please note that no long term markets will be assessed outside this process.
