Heritage Centre

The Port Phillip Heritage Centre is a place for connecting with our local history and discovering the objects and stories that make up the cultural heritage of the City of Port Phillip.

The Heritage Centre shares an historic building with the Emerald Hill Library in South Melbourne. There you can access historical information and a rich range of experiences through its resources, programs and staff.

Port Phillip Heritage Centre

At the Heritage Centre you can make local history enquiries, access the Port Phillip City Collection, order image reproductions and use a range of helpful online resources. Our opening hours are:

  • Monday 10 am to 6 pm
  • Tuesday 12 to 8 pm
  • Wednesday 12 to 6 pm
  • Thursday 12 to 6 pm
  • Friday 10 am to 6 pm

Local History Services

Can assist you with:

  • access to local history files on microfilm and microfiche and research resources
  • viewing electoral rolls and building registers
  • access to the local history collection
  • researching the history of your house
  • accessing family history online databases
  • viewing the Port Phillip City Collection art and heritage database
  • image searches for research and publication purposes (fees may apply)
  • publications, reproduction heritage photographs and postcards for sale
