International Women's Day poster design, Rubii Red, 2021

To celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, locally-based museums, historical societies and cultural groups have come together to share stories about women who have made significant contributions in their fields both in the past and in current times. Thank you to all the participating organisations and groups who have nominated a woman and contributed an essay and photograph to this project.

The stories cover a diverse range of occupation, skill, and experience and are of both local and national significance. The women represented in the following pages have lived or worked in the City of Port Phillip with several women included through their association with the participating organisations.

Please enjoy and take inspiration from their stories.
