Behind the Façade

Explore unusual sites and their interior spaces in Port Melbourne and Albert Park through Michael Kluge’s photographs.

Michael Kluge’s work as a photographer centres around making images that bring to light ordinary and everyday objects, people and places we find around us – the things we often overlook or take for granted. Created in 2017, Behind the Façade is a photographic exploration of the City of Port Phillip’s unique and historically rich built environment.

While many of the street view exteriors of these buildings are familiar to us in our day-to-day movements around the City, their interiors, tucked inside, remain largely unknown. Behind the Façade provides a glimpse of some of these hidden spaces. Find out more about Michael Kluge.

The Port Phillip City Collection holds six of Michael Kluge's photographs. Explore the Port Phillip City Collection.

Behind the Facade is available from 28 January to 30 April 2022.
