Why are we doing this?
The RF Julier Reserve netball courts are a popular venue for residents and sports clubs, with more people using our local sports facilities, especially for junior and women’s sport.
In November 2019, we asked the community to provide feedback on our proposal to install lighting at RF Julier Reserve netball courts. The majority of feedback received was in support of the lighting proposal.
The impact
Evening training currently occurs only in the summer months. The installation of lighting will allow for the courts to be used for evening training during the winter months, when the days are shorter.
Objectives
We are installing netball court lighting at Julier Reserve to provide our local community with greater access to sport and recreation opportunities.
Lighting coverage
The LED lighting uses the latest technology to efficiently light the courts, with minimal light spill to nearby residents. The lighting installation includes four, 12-metre light poles. The pole locations allow for lighting to be focused directly on the courts, eliminating light spill to surrounding properties. The lighting design will achieve an average light level of 100 lux, which meets the Australian Standards for netball training.
Lighting hours
It is proposed that the lights will only be used on weekdays, during the winter months (April to October) for training purposes. The lights will be automatically programmed to turn off at 8.30 pm on training nights.
