Why are we doing this?
A large number of pedestrians cross Liardet Street, including children that access the Children’s Centre. Liardet Street also provides an important and popular bike route for commuters and locals accessing the Bay Street shopping strip.
The safety improvements at the corner of Liardet and Cruikshank Streets include installation of a raised asphalt pedestrian crossing, kerb outstand and provide pedestrian priority when crossing Liardet Street. It also includes the relocation of the south bus stop on Liardet Street (across the road from Cruikshank Street) to approximately 20 metres northwest of its current location on Liardet Street.
The impact
Some areas of the site will be fenced off during construction. There will also be occasional traffic and pedestrian impacts during construction.
Liardet Street south bus stop on Liardet Street (across the road from Cruikshank Street) to be relocated approximately 20 metres northwest of its current location on Liardet Street
Objectives
Our upgrade on Liardet Street will:
- upgrade condition of pavement surface
- increase pedestrian safety when crossing
- increase service level in pedestrian crossing.
