Port of Melbourne has advised the community that three construction projects will be taking place in and around Port Melbourne between September 2020 and December 2020.
Each project will involve some pile driving activity. While works are scheduled in daytime hours, residents and local businesses may experience noise and vibration from the pile driving and related activity. Port of Melbourne apologises for any inconvenience and will work closely with contractors to minimise these impacts.
Project 1 – Short Road Wharf
A new maintenance facility will be constructed at Short Road Wharf. The landside pile driving is scheduled to take place from 10 to 18 September. Works are scheduled in permitted times between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
Project 2 – Mooring Dolphin works, Webb Dock
Works to construct a mooring dolphin will be undertaken between late November and December 2020. Mooring dolphins are structures that help secure vessels when berthed. The works will involve six days of marine piling activities. Works are scheduled between 7 am and 5 pm during the week, and possibly on Saturdays between 7 am and 1 pm).
Project 3 – Gellibrand Pier works
Pier works are tentatively scheduled at Gellibrand Pier in early 2021. The scope of works includes:
- demolition of three mooring dolphins including extraction or cutting off of the existing piles.
- driving of a total of six steel piles
- installation of two precast concrete dolphin caps and associated furniture including quick release hooks
- concrete remediation to limited areas on the pier head, fire monitor tower and outer mooring dolphin soffits.
