Your Mayor

Current Mayor Rachel Powning

Cr Rachel Powning has lived in East St Kilda for 12 years. She is passionate about taking action on climate change, and empowering the local community to reduce carbon emissions. Rachel is also committed to achieving equity and diversity in her local community, where she has been actively involved for many years.

For the last eight years, Rachel has worked as a management consultant to state and local government, project design and monitoring in the international development sector and as an employee in local government. She has a BA Hons, MA International Relations, and is an Australian Institute of Company Directors graduate.

Currently, Rachel sits on a number of Council committees including IMAP, Neighbourhood Programs Committee, Audit Committee, Friends of Suai Community Task Force and the Port Melbourne Waterfront UDF Committee. She also serves on the Boards of the Victorian Local Governance Association and Community Chef.

Rachel's key objectives for her term as Mayor include accelerating action on climate change, reducing childcare waiting times, lobbying for improved public transport and continuing to support social housing in the City of Port Phillip.

Former Mayors

The City of Port Phillip was formed in 1994 and is an amalgamation of the former cities of Port Melbourne, South Melbourne and St Kilda. The first council election for the City of Port Phillip was held in March 1996.
