Walks in Port Phillip Printer friendly Email to a friend   Rate this page

Walking along the Elwood Foreshore is not only fun, it is also a low-impact way of keeping fit.People in the City of Port Phillip already do a lot of walking. We are just behind the Cities of Stonnington, Yarra and Melbourne in the percentage of all trips we do by walking. On weekdays, about 46.6 per cent of all our trips are walked. Only 56 per cent of all the trips we make, shorter than 800 metres, are walked. Walking includes more than people who stride or stroll - it also includes those who get around by wheeling in their chairs, or with the help of their walking sticks, or pushed in strollers.

                                                          WALK AND TALK 2008

This is a free program of walks that explores the heritage treasures of the seven neighbourhood precincts of Port Phillip.  The CoPP walking strategy encourages residents to walk rather than drive. Walking is great for our environment, great for our health, great for the local economy and great for connecting to our neighbours.

Bookings: Email walking@portphillip.vic.gov.au or phone the Walk Line 9209 6522.  Your booking will be confirmed either by return phone call or email. However please remember that unless your booking has been confirmed either by phone or by email, you are not guaranteed of a place on the walk.

Important: Bookings close Friday 4pm, the week leading up to the WEEKEND walk.

Numbers: Numbers are limited to twenty places but extra walks may be added if demand is sufficient. You can book up to three walks ahead. Walk dates and events are subject to change and it is advisable to check local papers and the council's newsletter 'Divercity' closer to the date for confirmation.

Cancellation: If unable to attend a walk for which you have booked, please call ASAP (phone 9209 6522). This will enable others to attend in your place.
What to bring: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Dress carefully for the weather. If in doubt, ring Weather Call 1196. If rain seems likely, bring an umbrella.

General: Families are welcome, all walks are conducted at a leisurely pace.  Arrive five minutes early as walks may depart from the meeting point promptly at the scheduled time.
