About Volunteering
Volunteering in Port Phillip
Inclusive and civic communities depend on the participation of all its community members to support a vibrant and connected community. Port Phillip residents have a long history of civic activity and volunteering within their local community either in formal volunteer positions o
r informal volunteering that is often hidden. Informal volunteering can take the form of:
- running or participating in fund raising activities for charities or causes such a World's Biggest Morning Tea for cancer research
- getting involved in working bees for schools or children's centres
- neighbours that look out for one another and are happy to help
- artists or performers that share their skills and knowledge or participate in free performances
- sporting club volunteers that may act as time keepers or bring the oranges at half time or look after the tuck shop
Volunteering helps to build community leaders, helps to sustain and create communities, develops people's skills and knowledge, strengthens friendships, networks and connections, can provide a sense of belonging and responsibility and above all can be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
Council is committed to supporting volunteer effort and has initiated the following programs to support organisations that are looking for volunteers and individuals who are interested in contributing to their local community.
