When is a Tradesperson Parking Permit required?

A Tradesperson Parking Permit allows trades-persons to park their vehicles in designated residential parking areas within proximity of the residential property being serviced.

Who is eligible?

  • Only available to residential properties.
  • Residential properties with a No Parking Permit Policy note ARE NOT eligible.
  • Commercial properties ARE NOT eligible.

When does coverage commence?

Coverage commences when a valid Tradesperson Permit is displayed in the nominated vehicle.

Applying for Tradesperson Parking Permit

There are three steps involved in making an application for a Tradesperson Parking Permit.

1.  Complete the Tradesperson Parking Permit Application Form

The application can be lodged by the resident OR the trades-person.

2.  Provide documentation

  • No proof of identification is required.
  • You must specify the vehicle registration number.
  • You must specify the property address where the work is being conducted.
  • A resident OR tradesperson can apply for a Tradesperson Permit.

3.  Pay fees

  • $30 per week
  • Where in excess of 50 per cent of its duration, a Tradesperson Parking Permit cannot be provided due to it being destroyed, lost, stolen or misplaced - a new application will need to be made at the prevailing rate.
  • The fee will not apply if a parking permit is stolen and adequate proof is provided (ie police report).  A replacement will be provided free of charge in these instances.

Your completed application formdocumentation and payment can be submitted at Port Melbourne, South Melbourne or St Kilda Town Hall (town hall locations).  This process takes approximately 15 minutes, and your permit will be issued on the spot.

Alternatively, the application can be faxed to (03) 9536 2722.  If faxing your application through, please allow up to 10 working days for the permit to arrive via the post.

Where Tradesperson Parking Permits apply

Vehicles displaying a valid Tradesperson Parking Permit are exempt from green 'time limited' parking restrictions (excluding 15 minute zones) and red 'Permit Zone' and 'No Stopping - Permit Holders Excepted' parking restrictions adjoining residential properties in the street of permit issue, any intersecting streets and any immediately parallel streets.

Vehicles displaying a valid Tradesperson Parking Permit are not exempt from:

  • Clear ways, No Stopping areas and other red parking signs
  • Parking restrictions located in shopping centres, off street car parks, outside non-residential properties, including commercial, industrial and community land uses
  • Paid parking locations

Parking Permit limits and duration

A maximum of three (3) Tradesperson parking permits per household will be issued at any one time.

A Tradesperson parking permit is valid for one (1) week from date of issue.
